Date 31 - The Cyclist IX

  • The Scene: Casual date to connect and catch-up.

  • The Attire: White shorts and a white tank accentuated in gold accessories.

  • The Meeting: Downtown loft.

  • The Environment: Anxious for him and his professional path as he was just told he had to interview for his current position.

Tensions were high. I could feel him pull away …

Having to re-interview for his current position because of organizational changes and the inefficiency of the enterprise was weighing on him. Instead of opening up, I could feel him shutting down.

I offered to support him as best I could. Providing encouragement and motivation. When we did connect, it was spent working through interview questions or redirecting the anxiety to mindless movie watching or bike riding. I could tell that he was anxious and retreating within himself. After learning that he would be let go from his job; that was the final straw. He was determined that a relationship could not work. Unemployment was too heavy of a burden to carry in any relationship. And just like that, the end.

  • Note to Self: It would be nice if we could truly scribe our own stories (with God’s direction, of course!).

  • Shout Out to Men: Even though you are highly sought after, it’s a hard road; we get it!

  • Question: Why, when people are power hungry, do they do the most absurd things?
